Robin Clare
Robin Clare is a contemporary painter based in the Brighton. She was born in Belize to Jamaican parents and has lived in Belize, Jamaica and Canada before travelling to London to study art. She says she loves using bold colours and lettering, echoing the advertising style implemented in the Pop Art tradition, acting as a commentary on our materialistic ‘throw-away’ culture. Robin’s works are created using a number of techniques, from bright-coloured painting to stencilled patterns, combined with texts appropriated from popular culture, news headlines and everyday phrases. Creating a playful narrative inviting the viewer to engage in various discourses created by a juxtaposition of text and discarded objects.
