James Edson on Skateboarding Photographer Tobin Yelland
We recently asked photographer, skateboarder and PWBC member James Edson to give us a rundown of his to ten skateboarding photos of all time (check it here). After we put it up we asked him if he would be up for doing a regular thing with us and he said yes. So here’s something he wrote about one of his favourite skateboarding photographers, Tobin Yelland…
“I first saw Tobin Yelland’s work on the pages of Thrasher magazine when I was a kid. He in particular stuck out from other photographers because of the guys he took pictures of; there was always a lot of stuff on the Anti Hero guys, such as Andy roy and John Cardiel who I have always been intrigued with as characters. He was also behind the lens on Stereo’s A Visual Sound, which I have always considered one of the greatest skate videos ever made. I think Tobin’s choice of subject matter combined with being around the people he was with at a great time in skateboarding history made him what he is today.”
