Palladium Documentary on the History of Pirate Radio
With the rise of internet music: downloading, podcasting and especially online radio, the magic of other mediums of listening to our favourite music are dying. It can’t really be seen as a bad thing as more people have a chance to listen to more elusive music and these genres are getting more recognition than ever befor. Non the less though, we have had to say goodbye to a number of mediums that have made a huge difference to undergound music and their respective scenes. Take for instance the Bow-based record shop Rhythm Division, the heart of grime with regard to where DJ’s would get the most exclusive tracks of the time and where grime artists would go to have there white label’s sold is now closed. They’re still working online, but the whole magic of where it all started for grime is now gone. Then there is pirate radio, another key element to the whole movement of UK underground music.
