My Panda Shall Fly aka Suren Seneviratne, has been making music for 12 years already and has played venues such as Corsica Studios and has been appearing regularly on NTS radio. His videos are experimental just as much as his music, with a little video game character sprinting around a game to ‘Xerox’ and further plans for big things that isn’t allowed to be leaked here. And just like his music and videos, his mind’s pretty out there.

Haha, well it was all fun and dandy a couple of years ago, but I’m done with all the jump up stuff to be honest…Now I’m all about PSYTRANCE.

Erm…I guess I thought I was inside a tipi with a male penguin having tea….. ???

I’m all over it. I actually have a performing alias; well… a couple: “THE RUSSIAN”. That’s my main moniker. He is big and fat and… Russian I guess… He loves to throw pies at people.
Does that turn you on?
It doesn’t actually. I don’t know what the pie thing is about. The women have a bit of fun though.
Anyway to the music, what’s your creative process?
Annoyingly, I don’t have a studio setup at home so most of the time I get things rolling with the laptop on my bed, and just get going. I do insist on always wearing a tail whilst making music though but I guess that’s another story.
Does the tail inspire you or make you feel animalistic and free or something?
Well, it’s quite funny. It just annoys me and stuff…but I like it. No, surprisingly I HATE tails…but I think it’s kind of funny. Especially to my housemates who walk in on me.
And obviously when you thought of getting into music, what did you intentionally plan to do, to be set apart from the rest?
Hmm…
Or did you have no intention of getting recognition in the first place?
I don’t think I know that…Well I guess one pleasure that comes from making music is having other people hear it and enjoy it but I spent so many years doing stuff and having such a perfectionist attitude towards what I made that I didn’t end up doing anything with it at all. Quite stupid… but hey *sigh*.
…But the stuffs good, and people seem to be lapping it up and you’re playing at loads of underground places and radio stations etc, why do you think some people are such dicks towards you though? eg those twitter questions requests*
Hahahahahahhahah, yes. Well, I kind of know that “goon” so it wasn’t entirely hateful.. If anything it was quite joke.
While I grab those twitter questions, where do you think the state of music (or even society) will be in 100 years time?
Holy fuck…what a question. Me and my engineer was having a similar conversation yesterday I think. You know we were watching that mega-funny David Bowie and Mick Jagger video from the 80s… and it’s quite funny how they had no idea something like the “internet” and “youtube” would come about and archive shit forever and now they are ruined.

What do you get up to there?
I Just oversee the running of the operations… keeping the workers happy and what not… they hardly get to see much daylight and stuff so it’s always a treat when I’m there I suppose.
