Andrés Marroquín Winkelmann

Andrés Marroquín Winkelmann is a Peruvian born photographer who relocated to Berlin in 2005 to complete his photographic studies. Since then, his work has been shown in several shows as well as appearing in online publications such as Unless You Will and American Suburb X. In between all of that, he managed to set up his own publishing house, Meier und Mueller, which specialises in producing contemporary fine-art photography books.

His most successful series, Conditions (2010), received excellent reviews and the limited edition book sold out within months. Some of the images from Conditions are shown below, along with images from other, equally stunning bodies of work. Conditions was produced in Berlin and shows people and places in communal housing, part of the city’s subculture that is, or at least was in part, based on squatting. It shows people and places the photographer knows intimately, portraiture mixed with still lives. It “raises questions about social norms, and invites the viewer to enter a world in which boundaries fail to create differences, while differences are not only accepted, but even embraced”.
