Read all about it, read all about it! London is to get its very own men’s fashion week! (… and it’s about time too)

British menswear design has been picking up pace in the last few years with an increasing interest and demand for men’s fashion and the emergence of a flurry of exciting designers such as J.W. Anderson and Jonathan Saunders, who are quietly smashing moulds and progressing menswear design. Coupled with a strong history of established designers and iconic heritage brands boasting classic statement designs, from Barbour to Burberry, Britain is an institution of men’s fashion.

Despite this and its apparent popularity, MAN day is usually a hectic affair crammed into the last day of London Fashion Week when the hype is over and many have moved onto Milan, resulting in less exposure for designers and missed opportunities for buyers.

In an attempt to change this, the British Fashion Council has set out bold plans for a ‘London Collections: Men’ to be held in London 15th-17th June, marking the opening of the Men’s Fashion Week calendar.

Lead by GQ editor Dylan Jones, a power force of industry genius that includes Tom Ford, Christopher Bailey and Mr Porter will oversee a programme of catwalk shows and events. With labels such as Aquascutum and Margaret Howell already down on the list and the promise of poaching prominent British menswear designers such as Burberry, from Paris, ‘London Collections: Men’ hosts exciting prospects. Established designers will show alongside new talent and the high street in a move that will give British menswear a bigger platform and ultimately inspire creative talent and commercial success.
