Introducing: Hejira

Meet Hejira, everything that is right with 21st century London pop music. Jarring distortion, jangling homemade percussion, huge downtuned melodies, gorgeous harmonizing, fingerbells. Have one look at the friends page on their site and it all makes sense. The male/female vocal interplay of The Invisible and Eska, the uninhibited syncopation of Mica & The Shapes, kaleidoscopic production values worthy of Kwes, presented with an immediacy that’s all their own. Metamorphic indeed. We asked them a few questions so when they eventually take over the city, you can swear you knew about them all along.
Your Name / Location
HEJIRA / HOUSE OF DREAMS
Who’s who, and who plays what?
We are a band of multi-instrumentalists so it is relatively open as to who plays what.
Tell us about TRAUM, your upcoming residency at Servant Jazz Quarters.
TRAUM is our monthly night at a beautiful hidden gem of a venue in Dalston called Servant Jazz Quarters. The evening will include live music from Hejira and other music acts, 3 courses of cake supplied by our friends Relay Tea Room, as well as showcase the work of a visual artist. For our opening night on Friday 27th of January we will be joined by Raisa K (from Micachu & The Shapes) and Duval Timothy will be displaying some of his artwork as well as designing the flyer.

Who’re some local London artists that inspire you at the moment?
We really love Micachu & The Shapes, The Invisible, Gwilym Gold, Eska, Moats & Thrones, Femme, Valentina, Raisa K, Tawiah, Kwes, Elan Tamara, Blue May, Hello Skinny, Amen………
Any insight into the (making of your) debut album? Any other forthcoming releases?
Our debut album is gradually taking shape. In the mean time we are planning to release a series of live videos from the House of Dreams in the coming months so watch out for those on our blog.
